Shelter Animal Medicine & Care

Shelter Animal

Animal Sheltering Professionals,

Once again, the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association has put together an invaluable educational program for the 2011 Midwest Veterinary Conference. The Shelter Animal Medicine and Care program has been made possible by The Kenneth A. Scott Charitable Trust, A Key Bank Trust; and the Ohio Animal Health Foundation.

This year, we will have 30 hours of shelter medicine-related topics with several nationally recognized speakers, including Bert Troughton, Kate Hurley and Charlotte Lacroix. Topics range from OSHA and animal care standards for shelters to exotic animal care and management. Saturday features two concurrent tracks: One offers advanced shelter veterinary care topics, such as diagnostics and infectious diseases; the other is a full-day symposium on developing successful adoption strategies for your organization.

Whether you are a rescue group volunteer, a shelter professional or a veterinarian interested in animal shelter issues, we are sure you will find plenty of interesting presentations to attend. In addition to the shelter track, veterinarians will find many relevant lectures in medical, surgical and management tracks, including a four-day behavior track. The MVC has a lot to offer veterinary technicians and other shelter professionals as well, so plan to bring your staff.

The OVMA Shelter Animal Committee is very excited to host a reception on Friday evening after the conclusion of sessions. We hope you will join us and network with others in your field.

We are also pleased to offer scholarships to assist shelters in offsetting costs to attend the Conference. As in past years, twenty $300 scholarships are available to sheltering organizations. We encourage every shelter or rescue group interested in attending to submit an application.

We hope to see you at the Conference!
