Chances are good you will encounter a patient with a suspicious injury at some point during your career. But how do you determine if an injury is purposeful, and what do you do if you suspect it is? Find out how to navigate the dark waters of animal abuse, neglect, and cruelty from nationally recognized experts in Thursday's Shelter Animal I – Humane Agent Training track, Friday's new Animal Abuse track, and the Sunday Shelter Animal track.
Practicing veterinarians and veterinary students will come together at this popular event. Students will be able to ask questions about their future careers and strengthen their networking skills, while veterinarians will have a chance to give back to the profession (and maybe even find summer interns or future associates).
One of the best ways to learn a new concept is to see it for yourself. This new exhibit allows you to get a close-up look at a variety of products and services. Refer to the MVC mobile app or on-site program for a list of participating companies.
Implementing Fear Free techniques can make your hospital more inviting to even the most skittish of patients and their owners. Learn the theories of this popular program during Fear Free-focused sessions in Friday’s Technician I and Saturday’s Shelter Animal tracks. Already have a handle on the basics? Take your learning to the next level during the supplemental workshop on Saturday.
Have clients with pet fish or curious about fish medicine? Expand your knowledge of this growing area of veterinary medicine during Saturday's Aquaculture track.
Join us for a complimentary lunch as we welcome marine mammal veterinarian Claire Simeone as the MVC 2020 keynote speaker. Dr. Simeone is a director of the Ke Kai Ola (“The Healing Sea”) hospital at the Marine Mammal Center, a California-based non-profit treatment, education, and research center. She has spoken internationally on “zoognosis, the knowledge spread between humans and animals.”
Learn about Dr. Simeone’s work in marine mammal conservation and the importance of understanding how knowledge is shared between species.
Most of us know that the addition of visual aids and hands-on experiences enhance learning, but fewer people recognize the importance of reflection in the learning process. Studies have shown that when individuals have a chance to reflect on the material they’ve been taught, they become more confident in new concepts and increase retention. This can be done through individual activities such as journaling or through discussion with a group of peers. To that end, the 2020 MVC will offer a dedicated space for reflection, where attendees can gather to take their learning to the next level.
Decompress after a long day of sessions and mingle with colleagues at this informal gathering of shelter professionals.
Have you thought about expanding your practice to include virtual care, but aren't sure how to go about it? Attend the Sunday Practice Management I track to learn about the who, what, when, where, why, and how of telehealth services.
